Fatality Friday | Kold War Skarlet

The blood of my enemies flow through my veins. For Day 25 of 31 days of Halloween is Kold War Skarlet from Mortal Kombat 11. This skin was a Russian exclusive which made me so sad, because it is my favorite Skarlet skin. Some people may say it’s Bison-esque but I think it’s a stand alone design. I have to applaud MK11 for having some of the most detailed costumes I’ve seen. No detail went unnoticed. So detailed in fact, I wore my skirt backwards because I couldn’t tell the front from the back 😅

This is one of the fastest MK11 builds I’ve done so far considering how little time I had due to other obligations. I was so determined to finish this cosplay in time for Spooky Empire during Halloween weekend.

I started with my mask and dagger which I had 3D printed. I really fell in love with 3D printing and plan on upgrading our unit. I sanded off any imperfections then primed them with Rustoleum filler primer. I then painted them with Rustoleum Colonial Red in satin finish. I used Rustoleum Bright Gold and Plaid Metallic acrylic paint in silver and gun metal for details.

My Scythe I had made months ago for my other Skarlet cosplay. It is made with eva foam and pvc pipe painted with Plastic Dip in red. My Blood ball is a plastic sphere covered in dripping red acrylic paint.

The emblems on my jacket and hat are made with Sculpey polymer clay. I sealed them with polyurethane than paint them gold with Rustoleum bright gold. The red details were done with red nail enamel.

For the jacket and skirt I drafted them on my dress form. I used a combination of the duct tape method and classic flat pattern drafting. The fabric I used was a 2 way stretch red vinyl, upholstery black vinyl, and 4 way stretch stripe jersey. I love mixing textiles to give a sense of luxury and depth.

For the fabric covered buttons, I got the custom button kit at my local craft store and applied the vinyl meticulously. The final result really left me happy. I’m super proud of this costume. I’ve come such a long way in my crafting skills.
